I’ve gotten a few outfits lately even if i’ve said we should be smart about our spending but boy o boy, these few outfits have left me feeling like a huge snack.
I got this dress from Asos, sadly it’s sold out but the deep V at the front really hold my girls real up and i don’t really need to wear a bra. But i’ve putten a link for a similar dress and it is great.
Up next, is this mini skirt from Zara. It’s a very summer holiday skirt and a funny fabric that i love. The print on it is so casual, it feels soft on the skin, can be knotted on the side, a zip on the back and i can show off my legs too.
I have been feeling the same way for so long and as we’ve approached spring, i can’t be happier.
The mornings are not as dark as before and there’s hope it’s not going to be very dark. Not just that, birds have been visiting my backyard and i’ve seen some chairs outside some cafe close to my house.
One of the things i’m looking forward to is wearing more colours. I’m not going to say i’ve not been wearing colours at all, i have. My joy is that more people will be wearing colours and the entire street will be colourful
In addition, it’s the temperature for me. For someone who moved from Nigeria to England, i am not friends with winter at all that is why i am excited about spring.
The weather will be milder and the coats will not be as heavy as winter’s. I am so happy and excited to wear just jumpers, cardigan or trench with pastel buttoned down shirts.
The cherry blossom is beginning to blossom which has brighten the backyard and i plan on going to B&Q to get sunflower seeds to start planting. So what are the things that some of us are looking forward to enjoying?
Going for a walk – I was able to go for a walk the other day voluntarily and i liked it. I’ve not walked around my neighborhood in ages so, seeing plant pots hanging outside people’s windows was refreshing. I saw squirrels , magpies and people walking their dogs. We smiled at each other and nodded our heads in hello. I really loved it.
Sorting my wardrobes – I have spent time moving thick clothing backward and bringing lighter clothing forward which has been a fulfilling task.
I can now see more colours when i open my wardrobe. My converse are out, loose dresses, oh hats and beret, yeeeeah.
Bike Riding – So i taught myself how to ride a bike during the lockdown and i’m yet to perfect it or i’m scared to ride around cars. I’m not sure which one it is but i’m resuming because the weather permits it.
The windows are open – I’m not sure if cool breeze has a smell or i’m just a crazy person but i assure you, i’ve opend my windows lately and there’s been a smell of happiness and nature that comes through my window.
It is smooth, fresh, alive and very present-like and i like it.
Some of us are guilty of buying anything we like. The if i want it i’ll get it attitude. This is the type of attitude that will not make us save and not being able to plan for important stuff.
So this year i said i’m ready to slap myself on the wrist anytime i even thinking of spending on anything i can’t justify.
So what are the things that make some of spend crazy?
1 – Buying outfits for every occasion – Honestly this is bad. When i was back in Nigeria i dint really do this. But here in the UK, i think its because all the stores i saw in the magazines are now in my face. I get really excited and go crazy, and the funny thing about this is, after buying these stuff, i wear them once and totally forget about them. This is why it is bad, and this year we will not be doing this.
What i intend doing is making sure almost all my cloths are visible because when you have too much cloths and not enough space to spread them out, you can’t really see what you’ve got sometimes which is why we sometimes forget we have.
I will declutter, keep thing that are really needed and give stuff i don’t need to charity.
2 – Eating out – We all know eating out is one of those ways we socialise and have fun. Also, it can be really expensive and wasteful. A price of a plate of meal can actually cook a pot of food that you can eat at least 3 times, depending on how you eat. According to Lisa Young, PhD, we consume more calories as portion sizes are big, and tend to be bigger than our home-cooked meals. There are also temptations for you to try sugary desserts and other stuff.
To really minimise eating out, i’ve visited BBC GOOD FOOD for recipes of things i really like. The other day, i got a recipe for terayki salmon it was so delicious. I dint know i could cook like that lol, it was so enjoyable that i made it again the next day
3 – Cutting down on apps – Yes. In this social media age, you sometimes get dragged into downloading amazing apps that you eventually realise you don’t really need it. You use it for a while and that is it, you are done. This will be a no no.
4 – Block notifications from shops – Haaaleluyah. This was really hard for me because most of the time i don’t really want to buy. I just want to feed my eyes and then i get in trouble and before you know it, another outfit that will be forgotten at the back of the wardrobe.
So what i did was delete shopping apps from my phone and now, they can’t get me no more.
5 – Don’t register your cards on shop sites – If you find it difficult to delete apps from your phone, then don’t register your cards because it makes it easier to buy stuff when the cards are registered online.
Let’s think about this. Before you get up to get your cards to punch those long numbers in and then go to your bank app to verify its you, you must have had more time to think if you really need to buy this stuff and if this stress is worth it.
6 – Buy used – Some people might say eww, but no eww for me. I gotten some amazing hand used handbags on ebay and amazing coats from charity at leamington spa.
This will help you cut down cost. That used coat you’re getting, no one will know it’s used or new. Besides, what’s their business?
7 – Create a budget – Lastly and the most important, budget. If you’re disciplined you won’t overlook your plan. Planning your money helps you work around what you have, what you really need and this is how we save.
I will call myself an ambivert. I’m fine outside and i’m fine inside, but whenever i’m in, i hardly want to go out.
I also enjoy my own company, it’s heavenly to me and that is why i’m writing this blog on how to make your home so comfy.
One of the things that will make you enjoy your home is by making it so comfortable that you will find it hard to miss being outside. Some of the things i love in homes are
1 – Scents – I love when i walk into a room i’m attacked by a good scent. It is beautiful and relaxing. I often buy my scented candles from Yankee candle. I use the lemon lavender, and the smell is everything. It’s purple in colour and i love it because it’s so comforting and calming.
Candles also give this romantic ambience in a home, especially when you have a significant other and it can sometimes lead to oh la la moments.. lol
2 – Hand wash – Apart from the fact that i’m the type of person that washes her hands often, i think it’s nice when you have a really good hand wash gel and cream in the toilet. It’s not only a hygienic thing, but it also adds class to your toilet. how funny is this? Classy toilet, lol! Well, I often use molton brown hand wash and the cream, trust me it’s so good.
3 – Beddings – Having white sheets on your bed looks very luxurious, yessss! Not only is It luxurious, it also assures you that the bed is clean. According to yahoolife, White sheets assure guests that the bed is clean and fresh. And because they look and feel so clean, they also give the impression of luxury—even if the hotel itself is rather inexpensive. Check out even more secrets hotels don’t want you to know.
I use a 100% bedsheet because it feels good and its softer
4 – Flower – Ah bless! Another lovely one. I’m not kidding when i say flowers brighten up homes especially when they’re my favourite which is sunflower. Flowers at the centre of the house has the ability to lighten your mood and adds a bit of colour.
They also compliment your home too, For example, the settee in my house is grey and the curtains are grey with a bit of yellow and when every there’s a sunflower on the window seal, my living room looks better.
They also make your home smell better and it makes me happy and feel loved.
5 – Robe – I love a really good robe. They make me feel schick and rich. With robe, you don’t have to feel not dressed especially when they’re of a good quality. Just throw on a turban on a lazy day, have a glass of wine and watch a movie or file your nails.
Robes can be very comfy and relaxing. I’ve got a few from HM and they really feel good.
There are many reasons why people might choose to wear robes at home. Some people find them comfortable and relaxed, while others enjoy the luxurious feel of a robe. Additionally, robes can be worn as a way to keep warm in cooler weather or to cover up while getting ready for the day.
6 – Curtains – Curtains bring a splash of colour in a home and compliments your home as when done properly. It also improves the home comfort. This can be achieved when you choose certain fabric.
When getting a curtain for your home, there are things that should come to mind which are, length, colour and fabric, the lining, and wash friendly.
7 – coffee table – Coffee tables are very important in a living room because it holds essentials like tv remote, drinks, or to rest your feet. Despite the fact i think they take up space in your living room and i sometime think they can be so low and they can actually make your room look luxurious
8 – Towels – You can easily tell if a white towel is clean or dirty that is why it’s the best to have in your home. You also don’t have to worry about It’s colour fading with washing. I advice you have enough so you can change after a few times of using.
I’m not really a fan of winter, i’ve never been and i’m not sure if i’ll ever be.
My mood is often zig-zaggy, i eat a lot, drink a lot, pee a lot due to excess tea and my knees pay for it as i go up and down the toilet seat. But one thing i sure love about winter is how cool i look, lol. The style is so versatile, so bad ass and colourful if you want it to be. But all i can say is my relationship status with winter is complicated. Below are the reasons why
Layering – I’d like to think i’m getting better with this. When i first came to England i concluded that the people here are zombies because they don’t seem like they ever catch cold. Some with cropped jean, neck and and ears showing, OMG! and there i was miserable, unhappy and hating life coupled with the fact that i dint know how to shop for winter…damn!
So i accepted that this is going to be life, and here we are with me i’m loving winter fashion while hating it. I love to add pop of colour too because most people go for dark colours
Shorter days – Being someone from a very sunny country, i don’t like this but hey, it’s an opportunity for me to either put on my pyjamas early or go to bed. I see it as an opportunity for me to make a do a nothing excuse.
TV SHOW – Maybe it’s just me but i believe there are good tv shows during winter and i like my tv. I watch programmes like, death in paradise, private eyes, Rookie, e.t.c.
I also tend to eat more as well. I think it comes with sitting in front of the t.v and my close friends will tell you, Bose likes her food in winter and boy! i do eat plenty!! I just think the food in winter is better and comforting
SNOW – I don’t like snow. Yes, feel free to fight me. It’s so white i can’t drive, i cant see, it’s slippery and then, it becomes horrible and messy. Ah no, i don’t like it and its not for me. I like to drive easy and walk easy, and i don’t think i’m asking for too much am i?
NO BUGS – I’m dancing, lol. With winter comes no bugs. You know those jets that pretend to be flies? They go buzzzz and in winter there’s none of that.
I do think the flies in England are special breed, they’re huge, daring and confident. So bye bye bugs.
Holiday spirit – Well i don’t know if i love this part or hate it but one thing i can tell you is that i hate the holiday rush. We have halloween, prom, bonfire night and yes we have Christmas and new year.
I mean, Christmas is just 24 hrs but we go on to experience the rush and panic buying which leads to a lot of waste and so on. It drives me crazy
I just went shopping a few days ago because i felt like i deserve it lol, and i just wanted to switch up my wardrobe a bit.
I wanted just a leather dress because i’m not sure if i’ve ever had one and boy i din’t stop there. I saw other lovely dresses and and got a couple more.
I’m loving this faux leather dress (REF 9125/709) because it makes me feel like a bad bitch 😎, i love how it feels like a second skin, loving the midi length, and the slit.
The price is £45.99 if i’m not making a mistake lol and if i am, it’s not far from this price.
This dress is perfect for a girls night out or dinner with bae. It’s still available at the moment and you can grab your now if you’re interested.
Next is this lovely dress one i love. Here i’m wearing a house slippers because i’m not really going out, i’m just it on for you.
So it’s got a mini shoulder pad which gives it 90’s Bobby Brown era vibe. It’s gathered around the waist, the fabric is stretchy, and i love the length.
I absolutely love this dress (REF 4688/213) and how it feels on my body. This is absolutely a keeper but sadly it’s sold out.
Finally, its this dress i’ve named the mood swing dress because of the 2 colours.
It is knitted and will be perfect with a boot and maybe a leather jacket to give it that rock ‘n’ roll feel. It’s a size small and the REF is 2142/179.
The price is £32.99 which is not bad. The length is perfect and the fabric feels good on the skin.
Well, that is it for now, and i hope you enjoyed reading todays blog.
I will be seeing you around soon and thanks for reading.
A lot of us neglect ourselves despite the fact we work so hard to care of ourselves and loved one. And one of things i know that we should pay attention to is our personal hygiene. Ensuring our hygiene is up there adds so much to our self-confidence and promotes self love. so i’m going to list some of the things we should make sure of.
1 – Shower everyday – lol! I’m guessing you might be saying huh? Ain’t we supposed to shower everyday? Yes, we’re supposed to. But after leaving Nigeria for England, i realised that we all don’t shower everyday which is still shocking to me.
I don’t care how cold it is, SHOWER! It’s like taking care of one of the most important thing you have, which is your skin. Because it gathers dirt sometimes and sweats too. So you need to rinse those things off with soap and sponge.
And if you don’t like sponge, then don’t sponge often. Use soap or shower gel and sponge sometimes. Trust me you will feel good about yourself and feel clean.
2 – Scrub your body – Trust me i love how i feel after a good body scrub. I feel renewed and my skin feels good.
According to healthline.com, Body scrubs removes dead skin cells, and so provides several benefits: They allow our skin to absorb moisturiser better. By doing dead skin cell buildup, any moisturiser applied afterward will soak into the skin more throughly. They unclog pores and prevents ingrown hairs
There are ways for you to use your body scrub. You either ask a loved one to help you, especially your back because thats one part we all ignore and it’s because we cant reach it or you go to a spa.
I use Dove exfoliating body polish and it does magic on me
3 – Smell nice – It is when you walk into the room and people know it’s you or when you leave a room, they can tell you were there. It’s what people call signature scent.
I can’t imagine myself smelling miserable, i mean, why? 🤷🏾♀️ Smelling good can have a great impact on you from making feel good to boosting your confidence. It also impacts your mood and productivity. It can also attract people as well by making them say hey you smell good .
You don’t need to break the bank to smell good. Zara and mango have some great affordable scents.
A few i’ve invested in lately are, Ysl. Georgio Armani, and Coco chanel
4 – Clean nails – Hello ladies, this is like an icing on the cake and a perfect finishing, yasssss. 🥰
So, there’s something amazing about a well painted and manicured nails, it makes everything look perfect. I don’t mean spending money on gel regularly or going to the nail shops so often, because the truth is, some of us can’t afford it often. There are times when i can’t afford it too, but you can ensure, your nails are tidy.
Get rid of old nail polish instead of leaving it looking horrible. Do your pedi at home if you prefer it, clip your nails because they trap germs, tidy the cuticle and avoid arshy cuticle, trust they don’t look nice.
A well painted manicured nails add a perfect finishing to your look. It makes you look like you’ve got all your situation in order and makes you look in-charge as well
5 – Change your towels often – I will start by saying use white towels because white towels don’t lie. They simply tell you it is what it is. I know they’re hard to maintain but i think they help us to look after our skin better.
Towels absorb a lot of water and remain damp for hours, which is the perfect place for germs to breed. So don’t use them for weeks and weeks. Get more than one so that you can change towels as often as possible.
I also think we need flannels as well because they’re very useful. I know this because i use them. There are times i just want to wash my face at the end of the day and these flannels help. You also see what’s coming out of your face too
So do we have a deal? White towels, we need more than one, and we need flannels too. Alright deal…..
6 – You need a good face wash – Some of us are guilty of using body-wash to wash our face too. Stop it! not cool sis, not cool.
The main reason for facial wash is to remove dirts and other crap because our face is exposed to everyday pollutants. So washing it daily helps to remove impurities leaving the skin nice and clean, and leaving it hydrated.
I just started using Avene lately and so far it’s been wonderful. It’s available on Amazon, boots, superdrug etc.
You also need to understand that the skin on our face is different from the entire body that is why we require a different soap for our face.
According to Avail dermatology, Facial soap has lower pH value than the standard body soap that is why it’s so ideal, as it’s less likely to dry out your skin.
7 – Oral care – I see the dentist twice a year. I’m not saying you should, this is just me because of how important oral care is to me.
Brushing twice a day is a plus for me, floss as often as you can and wash your tongue. The reason why you might have a bad breath is either you don’t brush properly or don’t wash your tongue.
8 – Undies – Clean undies provides protection against bacteria, fungi etc. This necessary because if you wear jeans often and don’t wash them often, they may trap germs and your saviour is a clean underwear.
It is recommended to change your undies daily to prevent build up. I wear cotton underwear because it prevents odour because it’s breathable, pure cotton is hypoallergenic, it prevents infection like yeast etc.
I hope this has been helpful and i hope you enjoyed reading as well.
Do you have clothes in your closet that still has the tags on ? Or do you have have so much clothes, yet have nothing to wear still?
Too many cloths
I bet there are some clothes in your closet that you’re either saving for a special occasion or you probably forgot about it. One funny thing is that the special occasion never comes because some of us spend the whole week working and when the time comes for us to go out and wear that special dress, we’d rather rest and put our feet up, lol.
The amount of time we spend to decide what we’re going to wear can be used to do other productive things in life. It seems like we have no problem gathering stuff but we have a huge problem using them.
I realised that i end up repeating a certain percentage of my clothes and never wear a large percentage which makes me ask myself, then why do i buy more?
So here is the the jackpot question, WHY DO WE GATHER SO MUCH?
1 – It’s expensive – I get this and i don’t get this. Are we not good enough to use what we spend a lot of money on, on ourselves? Or did we just get it to give ourselves a pat on the back and say ‘well done for spending that much’.
2 -It’s a gift – errm so? I just want you to know that this gift is now yours. You either use it, give it away or throw it away if it doesn’t fit, you don’t like it or there’s no space for it. I understand the sentimental attachment of gift but remember that whoever gave it to you has no control over how it’s used okay? So use it, share it, give it away or donate to a charity.
3 – I might need it after i throw it away – yea yea yea. It’s happened to me several times and i don’t care anymore. Imagine it’s has been sitting in the corner all these while and after i got rid of it then i realised i need. Well, i’ll live.
I’ve come to realise that the time is now and tomorrow is not promised. Use your stuff now, open your best wine now as everyday is a special moment. I’m not saying be wrecless or squander. I’m saying don’t just keep things and wait for the right moment because i’ll ask you, when is the right moment to feel good and be happy? I will tell you today.
So don’t gather stuff you don’t plan on using, create some space, organise your stuff enjoy yourself and be happy.
I should have blogged about this all these but never say never because, its never too late.
I’ve not had the opportunity to enjoy summer the way i usually do due to work. I’ve been so busy, A girl gotta eat.
So what do you need for summer?
1 Water bottle – Yes! if you’re like me and you’re often up and about with work, you need your water bottle so you can drink more water. Our bodies strive to stay cool throughout the summer by naturally perspiring, but this can lead to dehydration. As a result, it is important that we drink more water because having a little water in our bodies can cause a number of diesease.
2 Sunscreen – I have to say, i’m the wrong person to talk about sunscreen because i’m late to the party.
I started taking sunscreen in recent years when i start taking my skin routine seriously and because of the phrase ‘black don’t crack‘. But if you don’t look after black, it will crack.
Your chance of developing skin cancer and ageing skin is increased by ultraviolet light from the sun. There are several trustworthy and efficient sunscreens out there, but it’s crucial to use them properly. No matter where you live or the colour of your skin is, using sunscreen every day can help you avoid sun damage.
3 Wear a hat – Hats can be a helpful complement for protecting your head, ears, face, and neck from the sun, but they rarely offer enough coverage on their own to anyone who is outside during periods when using sunscreen is advised (when the UV level is 3 or higher).
4 Wear light clothing – It’s not smart to wear heavy clothing during the summer because it tends to stick to the skin, trapping heat and sweat. This is why cotton and linen are the best materials for summer as they eliminate heat and sweat
5 Wear sunglasses – Sunglasses protect your eyelids and the delicate skin surrounding your eye sockets from dangerous UV radiation; they are often larger than many common eyeglass frames.
6 Maxi dress – If we don’t list summer dress amongst summer essential then we are not ready. Whether you’re in the office or out and about the maxi dress is an excellent choice. It is just perfect especially when it’s windy and you watch the dress dance with the wind. Also you can choose not to wear anything underneath as long as it’s not see through and you’re careful. If anything else happens don’t say i advice you to. lol
I do hope you’ve enjoyed reading todays blog. I will be seeing you next week. Please do leave a comment as i enjoy reading your thoughts.
I just got back from Pisa (from my cousins wedding) and it’s a lovely place to visit. From my point of view its peaceful with lots of old buildings which gives it a character. The buildings are old school, devoid of modern architecture, lots of people speaking Italiano and drinking coffee by the road side. They seem loud like Nigerians when they converse.
Firenzi
The building’s are quite colourful, i love the little balconies, the narrow roads and lots on mini/little cars
The only problem with this trip was it was so hot. Oh my God! it was so hot i was unhappy. It was above 30 degrees. To top that, i had sore throat and ear pain. I don’t know where it came from but it made my life miserable.
So we decided to visit the hospital because Lozengez were not working and we ran into another problem – communication.
A few cant speak English and my Italiano is epileptic. We went to different hospitals and they kept directing us to another till we got to the right one. It was an A & E, lol!
I said okay as long as i get some prescription, that’s fine. My God! The sight of people been rushed was horrific. It took me 7 hours before i saw a doctor and by then i was drained, but i was glad.
I had camera being put down my throat, ear and nose. I kept saying to myself ‘mate its just sore throat. Just prescribe an antibiotics and i’m out of here’.
I got my prescription, we left the hospital and we couldn’t get a taxi because we dint have a taxi service number and where we were was really out of town. So we decided to walk. It was a fifty minutes journey. I said to myself, i’m already in pain so walking 50 mins is not a problem.
Suddenly we saw a pharmacy, we went in with my prescription, we asked them if they can help call us a cab. They did and viola! we got a taxi to back to the hotel and the first thing i had was ice cream.
Happy ice cream girl
The wedding was the next day. It was beautiful and colourful. Lots of happy people and lots of food. My cousin looked amazing and happy. I was so happy for her.
We were able to see the leaning tower of Pisa, such an amazing work of art
Leaning tower
Leaning tower
The leaning tower has been leaning for 800 years. Many people assume that the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans because of age. However, the tower actually began to lean as early as 1178—when only three stories had been built.
Well i’m back in England better and cracking chicken bones lol. What i’ve leant on this trip is don’t get sick in another mans country because if you do, you’ll be stressed and sorry.
Travel with essentials like aspirin, pain killers etc.
